The David Gallery Profile
The David Gallery is the oldest gallery in the city of Haifa and among the oldest of the quality galleries in Israel.
The gallery was established in the early 60's when its founder and owner, David Marco, came to live in the Artists' Quarter in Zfat (Safed) in the Galilee. Here he was associated with the leading artists of the Quarter, among whom were Moshe Castel, Josef Kossonogi, Sionah Tagger, Yitzhak Frenel (Frenkel), Aaron Giladi, Mordechai Levanon, Shimshon Holzman, to mention but a few.
David Marco was a constant guest in the studios of these artists who became among his closest friends and it was here that he absorbed and internalized the best of the Israeli world of art.
The David Gallery promoted exhibitions of the works of many painters, including Moshe Castel, Yair Garbuz, Jacob Wechsler and other important artists and raised generations of art collectors, imbuing them with a love for Israeli art.
Many well-known, veteran artists consult with David Marco on everything concerned with the production of their work, on account of his rich experience over the years. He has also taught groups of young, aspiring artists how to produce professional work - and some have indeed reached the heights of the profession.
The David Gallery exhibits the best painters and sculptures in Israel, serves as consultant to companies and institutions, locates rare pictures, evaluates works of art, and offers advice on and assistance with the preservation of works as well as executing profession restorations at the highest level.
