Kun Zeev
(1930 -
Bom in Nyiragyhaza, Hungary, Kun was sent at the age of 13 to Auschwitz which he survived thanks to his natural talent for drawing: the portraits he made of SS guards and Kapos being worth a piece of bread or a bowl of soup. After the war he studied art in Budapest and Vienna before coming to Israel in 1954. His painting reflects the horrors of his childhood, embodying symbols of hopelessness. Yet it is rich in color and architectural imagination. He had one-man shows in numerous galleries in Israel, Europe and America, and he was awarded the Nordau Prize in 1973.
