Born in Budapest, Kossonogi obtained musical and art training in Berlin. After studying for years at the Grande Chaumi?re in Paris he settled with his family In Tel Aviv. His early work was in oils, and later he became famous for a large number of water colors where blue and yellow were dominant and a musical rhythm was discernible. He exhibited in most Israeli museums and many galleries, and was awarded the Dizengoff Prize three times, the French Grand Prix for seascapes for 1950, and the International Prize for water color in 1966 in Tokyo, the Histadrut Prize in 1967 and the Nordau Prize in 1976. Among the collectors of his paintings was the late President of France, Vincent Auriol.
